Ntoroko County triumphed in their opening match of the Tooro MTN Amasaza Cup, securing a
3-1 victory over their rivals, Mwenge North, on Sunday afternoon at Karugutu playground.
Frank Madilo opened the scoring for Ntoroko in the 31st minute. In the second half, Ntoroko
continued to dominate, with Godfrey Muhara adding a second goal in the 51st minute. Although
Dean Katwesige scored for Mwenge North in the 71st minute, Ntoroko sealed their victory with a
bullet header from Ason Kaswara off a corner kick in the 81st minute.
Mwenge North's head coach, Charles Mwenye, praised Ntoroko's performance. "They played
well throughout both halves, created many chances, and deserved the win. We are waiting for
another game at home and will correct a few of our mistakes," said Mwenye. He added that the
team would return to the drawing board to plan for their next matches, following their loss in the
opening game.
Mwenge North were quarterfinalists in the 2nd edition of the Tooro MTN Amasaza Cup.
The LC III chairman for Karugutu Town Council, Raphael Matte, along with other officials from
Ntoroko District, attended the match. “We continue to witness exceptional talent, and I want to
thank our partners, MTN Uganda, for making this possible. Such activities require significant
support, and over the years, MTN has walked this journey with us by backing several initiatives
spearheaded by the Kingdom, enabling us to sustain activities like the Masaza Cup tournament
year after year,” Matte said.
He added that the Tooro MTN Amasaza Cup brings communities together, serves as an avenue
to celebrate culture, empowers the youth through sports, and provides a platform to address
crucial social issues, such as creating awareness about preventative measures for HIV/AIDS.
This initiative is central to building a healthy and productive human resource.
